Designing the Future of Healthcare

Do you think of “healthcare” as an event or as a journey?
This community exists to empower you to help design the future of healthcare. While your voice is essential to that purpose, we would like to share a few elements we believe will be part of the future in ways big and small.

We’ve created a simple graphic to help you visualize this future state, and the first thing you’ll notice is that it is circular. We believe the future of healthcare is more of an ecosystem of care rather than a specific moment in time. Rather than accessing healthcare only in a moment of need, we believe a holistic view of you and your health can lead to preventative care and, ultimately, a focus on well-being.

To do this, healthcare will need to be more personalized and preventative. Using tools such as advanced genomics and a detailed understanding of your health journey, your healthcare team will be better equipped to provide personalized care that could ultimately prevent that moment of need. We’re not offended, we know you don’t want to go to the hospital.

Your healthcare team itself will need to evolve. In future posts, we’ll share how the role of your doctors, nurses and other clinicians will need to change to provide you with this level of care. We’d like to use technology to free up these skilled team members so they can spend more time doing what they love—caring for you.

Speaking of you, you should be able to access care when and where you want it. The amazing curated experiences we’ve all become accustomed to in retail, hospitality, entertainment—even from our favorite restaurants—can be an inspiration to the healthcare industry.

The subscription models available in other industries also foreshadow possibilities for healthcare. If you can have an unwatchable amount of streaming entertainment at your fingertips at a fraction of the cost of actually owning all of that content, why can’t we rethink and reimagine how you access and pay for healthcare?

To do this, we know digital and perhaps autonomous/drone technologies will be needed. Rather than fetching you that cup of ice, for example, could an autonomous service cart do so, freeing up your care provider to focus on more critical work? We’ll share in future videos how we believe such technologies can help us rethink who (or what) is doing certain tasks so that your care team is more efficient, effective and possibly less expensive.

While we march toward a digital and autonomous future, equipped with such detailed and personal health information available across your care team, it will be more critical than ever for that information to be secure. The possibilities and promises of digital technology must be balanced with your privacy.

Our mission is to enhance the health and well-being of every person we serve. We look forward to sharing more about how we believe these elements may evolve healthcare while our focus remains constant: your health and well-being.
