How did your childhood help shape where you are today?

“I had the privilege of growing up in a rural part of the country and spending all of my time outside exploring, building and adventuring,” says Kyle Chenet, CEO of 410 Medical. “And that fostered a really deep sense of curiosity and resilience and adventure and confidence All of which are greatly helpful when you’re an entrepreneur where you need to be resilient, where you need to have confidence and be positive and where you’re open to adventure and to the ups and downs and curves in the road that it takes.”

These qualities became crucial as he ventured into entrepreneurship, leading 410 Medical, a company focused on transforming emergency medicine and critical care. Their mission is to help save the lives of critically ill patients by developing innovative tools that assist healthcare providers in improving resuscitation.

What makes 410 Medical different?

“I think that it’s our focus that makes this unique. There’s not as much innovation in those spaces,” says Chenet. “There’s been lots of struggles along the way. Getting people to change behaviors in medical practice or technology or in any field of life is really a challenge for a new, innovative company and products. I think one of the things that makes us different as a team is that number one, we are very clinically oriented.”

One of those lifesaving tools is Lifeflow, a handheld rapid infuser. This innovative device allows medical providers to quickly and precisely administer life-saving fluids. It was developed by Dr. Mark Piehl, a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric intensivist in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“He treats and sees a lot of really sick patients, as you can imagine. And many of those present with hypotension and shock and are poorly perfused and need rapid blood or IV fluids in order to, be stabilized and survive. Over the years, he watched his team struggle to administer IV fluids and blood rapidly to patients that were crashing” says Chenet.

Dr. Piehl knew there had to be a better way than the traditional methods that existed. Inspired by these challenges, he developed LifeFlow, a handheld rapid infuser, in his garage. The device has been a game-changer, saving nearly 35,000 patients to date. One poignant story involves a young girl who began hemorrhaging after a tonsillectomy. Thanks to the swift action of paramedics using LifeFlow, she was resuscitated and survived a life-threatening situation.

Support from investors like Catalyst by Wellstar has been instrumental in 410 Medical’s growth. These partnerships help drive the continuous innovation and success of the company.

What does having the support of Catalyst mean to you?

“Catalyst specifically brings investment which is critical obviously to operate and grow the company. But it also brings creativity, research support, brand support and collaboration within your hospital. So, there’s just so many things that a partner like Catalyst can bring to 410 Medical and to other companies” says Chenet.

What is your dream for 410 Medical?

We want to democratize the resuscitation, put in the hands of all the medical providers no matter the region, anywhere in the country – we want to give them the best tools for resuscitating critically ill patients. We think there are tools available today, but they are inadequate. They are slow and complex. They don’t give the paramedics, the nurses, the PA’s , the doctors, the best tools for providing the best outcome for patients in the most efficient way and our vision is to provide those tools to those providers. We are excited to do that and do it with simple elegant tools and ultimately save lives.

410 Medical’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, clinical expertise, and innovative thinking. As the company continues to grow, it remains committed to improving emergency and critical care, saving lives, and inspiring the healthcare industry.
