Today Catalyst by Wellstar announced its direct investment in Moth+Flame, an award-winning leader in immersive VR training solutions. This investment marks the latest milestone in Catalyst’s ongoing collaboration with Moth+Flame, which began with a successful pilot with Wellstar’s Learning and Development team. The pilot’s success showcased the potential of VR training in enhancing professional development and patient care.
When Wellstar’s director of Palliative Care, Dr. Grandhige, experienced this training firsthand, she immediately recognized its potential for her team. Collaboratively, Catalyst and Moth+Flame developed a groundbreaking VR training library, “Conversations in Healthcare.” This library aims to equip palliative care team members with the skills to handle some of the most challenging conversations with patients, including:
– Practicing serious-illness conversations to ensure patient-centered care decisions.
– Guiding patients through Advance Care Planning with compassion and respect for their end-of-life decisions.
– Navigating end-of-life decisions empathetically with ICU patients.
John D Cooper, Head of Venture Investment for Catalyst by Wellstar, emphasizes the significance of this ongoing collaboration and now investment, “Our aim at Catalyst is to create solutions that not only enhance patient care but also create market value. Investing in Moth+Flame allows us to scale innovative training solutions that can make a real difference in healthcare delivery.”
“Experts like Dr. Grandhige are creating powerful training experiences that addresses industry-wide learning demands on our platform,” emphasized Kevin Cornish, Founder of Moth+Flame. “Catalyst’s investment will help us completely change the way learning happens in the healthcare industry by giving individuals realistic simulation practice and by giving organizations deep data to target risks and opportunities for workforce improvement.”
Identifying gaps in the marketplace with the unique insight of being close to patients, and developing solutions to fill these gaps is a core capability of Catalyst. We believe that the “Compassionate Conversations” training library has the potential to benefit health systems across the country. Wellstar’s mission to improve the health and wellbeing of every patient it serves drives us to invest in startups like Moth+Flame. By co-creating solutions that meet industry needs, we aim to extend Wellstar’s impact in Georgia and beyond the Southeast.
We look forward to seeing the positive impact this collaboration will have on Wellstar’s care team and the healthcare industry at-large.
